In general, chin implants can be placed through small incisions inside the mouth or below the chin which means no or very less visible scarring.*2 The implants are conical, custom sized and made out of biocompatible material such as silicone which quickly sticks to the jawbone while creating a very natural feel and look.*3 After the implants are placed properly, dissolvable sutures or stitches are used to close the incisions. Chin augmentation surgery typically takes less than one hour.

After the surgery, a chin dressing might be placed to keep pressure on the implant while allowing to improve adherence of the soft tissue to the jawbone and it is generally removed after 1-3 days. Sutures and stitches are removed within 5 days. Swelling and bruising generally subside in about 7-10 days. Most patients state that there is a very little pain after surgery which can also be eased with pain medication. You will be able to return to work and normal level daily activities in about 3-4 days. You should avoid chewing hard foods for about a week. A soft diet might be advised for 1-7 days.
Swelling and bruising will gradually disappear, and they should be difficult to notice after about 10 days. You need to sleep face-up, with your head elevated for 1 to 2 weeks to ease swelling and protect incisions. After one week, you will be able to return to your most daily activities. It is best to avoid tiresome activities for at least two weeks. You should refrain from strenuous exercises for at least 3-4 weeks after the surgery. Your surgeon will follow your recovery and will tell you when you are ready. Your results will be close to the final within a month and your final look will become evident after about 3 months. It is very important to follow post-op instructions. Your surgeon will provide a customized recovery plan based on your needs and your level of healing.
