Have a question about Brow Lift?
In this article
The brow rarely drops evenly. In most faces the outer third goes first, which hoods the corner of the eye and makes the whole upper face look tired even when you are rested. Patients weighing up a brow lift in Turkey usually arrive with three questions tangled together — cost, safety and recovery — and the honest answer to each one depends on how the forehead, brows and upper lids are working together in your particular face. This guide walks through what the surgery actually changes, what shapes the price you are quoted, and what the weeks afterwards look like in practice.
What a brow lift changes, and what it leaves alone
A brow lift raises the position of the eyebrow and softens the heaviness at the outer corner of the eye. It does not remove loose eyelid skin, and it will not erase crow’s feet.
That distinction matters more than any other decision in this operation. When the brow itself has dropped, pulling on the eyelid skin only makes the eye look hollow and the brow even lower. When the brow is fine but the lid skin is lax, lifting the forehead changes very little. Working out which problem you have — often both, in different proportions — is the real work of the consultation, and it is why surgeons look at your forehead at rest, not just in a photo where your brows are raised. If you are still separating the two, our explainer on the difference between a brow lift and upper eyelid surgery goes through the signs in detail.
There is also no single ideal brow to aim for. A 2016 analysis in European Archives of Otorhinolaryngology looking at ideal eyebrow shape and position noted that the aesthetics of the brow and lid vary between ethnic groups, ages and genders — which is a useful corrective to the idea that one arch suits everyone. A good plan moves your brow a few millimetres into a position that still looks like you.
The main techniques
Surgeons reach the brow in several ways, and the route changes the scar, the recovery and sometimes the durability. An endoscopic lift uses small incisions hidden in the hair and a camera. A temporal or lateral lift targets the outer brow only, through a shorter incision near the temple. A pretrichial or hairline lift places the incision just in front of the hairline, which suits a high forehead because it does not raise the hairline further. In a few cases, usually where there is nerve weakness, the incision sits directly above the brow. Our comparison of endoscopic versus traditional brow lift techniques sets out the trade-offs side by side.
📋 Millimetres, not centimetres Brow surgery works in very small distances. A lift that looks dramatic in a mirror on day one is usually swelling, not the final position — and a result that looks surprised is almost always over-correction rather than good healing.
Is a brow lift in Turkey safe?
Safety here comes down to the hospital, the anaesthesia team and the surgeon’s training — not the country on the plane ticket. A brow lift is a short, superficial operation in experienced hands, but it sits close to the nerves that move the forehead, so technique and judgement matter.
Ask where the operation actually takes place. Procedures done under general anaesthesia or deep sedation belong in a licensed hospital or a fully equipped surgical centre with an anaesthetist present throughout and overnight care available if needed. Ask who your surgeon is by name, what their specialist qualification is in plastic or maxillofacial surgery (surgery of the face and jaw), and how often they operate on brows specifically. A surgeon who performs these weekly will have a settled view on which technique suits your forehead and will say no to the ones that do not.
The known risks are mostly temporary, but you deserve to hear them before you book rather than after:
- ✓Numbness or itching across the forehead and scalp, which can take weeks to months to settle
- ✓Mild asymmetry between the two brows, since no two sides of a face heal identically
- ✓Thinning or patchy hair growth around incisions placed in the hairline
- ✓A hairline that sits slightly higher, which is why forehead height is measured beforehand
- ✓Weakness of forehead movement if a nerve is bruised — usually temporary, rarely lasting
- ✓A visible scar, most relevant when the incision is near or in front of the hairline
Technique choice is an active area of study rather than settled dogma. A 2023 paper in the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery compared two different approaches to lateral brow droop — an endoscope-assisted mesh lift and a gliding brow lift — specifically on effectiveness and safety, in a group of 86 patients. The practical lesson for you is simple: expect your surgeon to explain why they favour a particular method for your brow, not just that they do.
⚠️ Declare everything at the consultation Blood-thinning medication, smoking, migraine treatments affecting forehead muscles, previous eyelid or forehead surgery, and any dry-eye problem all change the plan. Hiding them to avoid being refused surgery is the single riskiest thing a patient can do.
What drives the cost of a brow lift in Turkey
Turkish pricing for facial surgery is generally well below private pricing in the UK, Germany or the Netherlands, and that gap — not a difference in the operation itself — is why most international patients look here in the first place. Beyond that, your figure is personal, and it is confirmed only after a surgeon has assessed your photos or seen you in person.
One thing is worth knowing before you compare quotes. Nine out of ten brow lift patients we treat have at least one other procedure in the same session, most often upper eyelid surgery, so the quote you receive will usually cover a combined plan rather than a brow lift alone. That is not an upsell; it reflects the fact that heaviness over the eye is rarely caused by the brow alone. Budget from the combined figure and you will not be surprised later.
When you receive a written quote, read it for what is included as much as for the number. A clear quote names the technique, the anaesthesia type, the hospital, the nights of accommodation, airport and clinic transfers, medication and garments, follow-up appointments before you fly home, and the clinic’s position on revision if the result settles unevenly. Our breakdown of what an all-inclusive surgery package in Turkey usually covers is a useful checklist, and if you are benchmarking across countries, see how plastic surgery prices in Turkey compare with the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

🚨 A very low headline price usually hides something If a quote undercuts everything else you have seen, ask which hospital, which named surgeon, which anaesthesia and how many nights. Missing answers are the real cost.
Brow lift recovery week by week
Most patients look socially presentable at around two weeks and see the brow settle into its true position over two to three months. The early days are more about bruising and tightness than pain.
Swelling behaves oddly on the forehead because gravity carries it downwards. It is normal for your eyelids and even your cheeks to look puffy on days two and three, long after the forehead itself has calmed. Sleeping propped up on two pillows, cool compresses around rather than on the incisions, and resisting the urge to bend forward all help more than people expect. Our detailed guide to how long swelling lasts after a brow lift covers the day-by-day pattern.

One point worth planning for: if you combine the brow lift with eyelid surgery, which most patients do, your recovery is paced by the slower of the two. Plan around the combined timeline rather than the brow lift on its own.

⚠️ Call the clinic, not a forum Rapidly increasing swelling on one side, fever, spreading redness around an incision or sudden one-sided loss of forehead movement all need to be reported the same day — including after you have flown home.
How long should you stay in Turkey?
Plan on roughly seven nights for a brow lift, and a little longer if it is combined with other facial surgery. That window lets your surgeon see you after the swelling peaks, remove sutures or clips, and clear you to fly.
A typical trip runs like this: arrival and transfer, consultation and pre-operative blood tests the next day, surgery, one night of monitoring either in hospital or at the hotel with support available, then a few quiet recovery days with one or two dressing checks before a final review. Keep the first two days after surgery genuinely empty — no Bosphorus tours, no long walks in the heat.
Book a flexible return ticket if your fare allows it. Most people fly home on schedule, but a surgeon occasionally wants another two or three days before clearing air travel, and an unchangeable ticket turns a minor delay into a stressful one. Cabin pressure is not the issue so much as being far from your surgeon in the days when a problem is most likely to show.
- ✓Accommodation close to the clinic: A short transfer matters far more than a view when your forehead is tight and your lids are swollen.
- ✓Someone travelling with you: Not essential, but the first 48 hours are easier with a second pair of hands and swollen eyelids make reading labels harder.
- ✓A written aftercare plan: Medication, wound care, hair washing and activity limits in your own language before you leave the clinic.
- ✓A direct contact for after you fly: A named person who answers quickly, so a question at week three does not go into a general inbox.
Combining a brow lift with eyelid surgery or rhinoplasty
Combining is the norm rather than the exception, and the usual partner is upper eyelid surgery. Done well, the two procedures correct different parts of the same complaint in one anaesthetic and one recovery.
There is published support for pairing them. A 2025 study in Scientific Reports assessed a lateral brow lift performed together with upper eyelid surgery in a group of 28 women with a mean age of 47, comparing brow position on before-and-after photographs against classical ideal-eyebrow measurements. That mean age is also a useful reassurance if you are in your mid-forties and wondering whether you are too early — you are squarely in the usual range. If you are weighing the pairing up, read should I combine a brow lift with eyelid surgery and our longer look at who benefits from a brow lift with upper eyelid surgery.
The other request that comes up often is a brow lift alongside rhinoplasty. It can be reasonable in one session, since the two work in different areas, but it lengthens the operation and merges two recoveries — nose packing or splints plus forehead swelling is a harder first week than either alone. Total theatre time, your general health and your surgeon’s comfort with longer combined cases should decide it, not the convenience of one trip.
Mid-face and temple work is sometimes added too. A 2023 technique paper in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery described a temporal facelift approach in which brow lift, canthopexy and mid-face lifting were carried out through the same dissection — a reminder that these areas are anatomically continuous and are often planned as a unit rather than as separate purchases.
Brow lift with upper eyelid surgery, or with a temporal and mid-face lift, when one assessment shows several contributors to the same tired look.
Brow lift with rhinoplasty in one session — realistic for healthy patients, but expect a heavier first week and a longer stay.
Stacking several long operations into one anaesthetic to save a second trip, particularly with high blood pressure, smoking or clotting risk in your history.
Choosing the clinic and the surgeon
Judge a clinic on how specific it is willing to be with you before you pay anything. Vague answers at the enquiry stage tend to predict vague answers after surgery.
Before-and-after photographs are one of the most common requests we receive, and they are a fair one — but look at them critically. You want brows photographed at rest, in the same lighting and from the same angle, on faces with a forehead shape and hairline similar to yours, and at least some images taken months rather than days after surgery. A gallery of dramatic day-one lifts tells you nothing useful about where those brows settled.
Ask directly who will operate, and ask again on the day. Patients care about that more than any other credential, and rightly so. A clinic that names your surgeon, confirms their specialist qualification, tells you which hospital you are going to and gives you one person to contact afterwards has already answered most of the questions that cause regret.

A named, specialist-qualified surgeon; a licensed hospital or accredited surgical centre; a written quote listing inclusions; honest discussion of risks and scar position; realistic photographs at months, not days.
Pressure to pay a deposit the same day; no named surgeon; no mention of anaesthesia or facility; promises of a guaranteed look; refusal to discuss what happens if you need a revision.
A small amount of muscle-relaxing injection can raise the outer brow slightly, and volume replacement at the temple or tail of the brow can reduce hooding — both temporary, both worth trying if your droop is mild or you are not ready for an operation.
