What are the Expected Outcomes of Gynecomastia Surgery?
The outcomes of gynecomastia surgery can be analyzed in two main categories: aesthetical and psychological. The enlargement of the breasts may be due to excess glandular tissue and/or excess localized fat. In some cases, excess breast skin is observed. In severe cases, breasts may sag and the areola (the dark area around the nipples) can be stretched. Regardless of the reason, gynecomastia changes the way chest looks. Gynecomastia surgery is a highly effective treatment for this problem. The firmer, flatter and more masculine chest contours will be restored after the surgery. Gynecomastia obscures the masculine features of the chest. Consequently, it may cause a severe psychological stress in patients. Patients can become highly self-conscious and their self-confidence can be damaged. They may avoid activities which may require them to show their chests. They may have difficulty while choosing what to wear. Therefore, after procedure, strong psychological benefits are expected. You will start to love your body more.
“Gynecomastia may not be dangerous for the body, but it may harm men psychologically. What we do is restore the natural masculine appearance of the chest through careful sculpting.”
How Is A Gynecomastia Surgery Done?
Gynecomastia surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to restore masculine contours by changing the appearance of male breasts.
Anesthesia
Like all kinds of surgery, thigh lift surgery requires anesthesia. Your surgeon will decide whether general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is more suitable for your case.
Surgery
There are 2 techniques of gynecomastia surgery: Liposuction technique and the tissue excision technique. Sometimes these two techniques can be combined to achieve better results.
Techniques
Gynecomastia surgery has several techniques that meet each patient's demands.
Liposuction Technique
Liposuction technique is preferred when most of the excess tissue is fat and there is no sagging stretched skin. *2 During the surgery, your surgeon will make very small incisions to remove excess tissue. Depending on the needs of the patient, there may be one or several small incisions for each breast. Incisions may be placed within the armpit, around the areola, or withing the natural crease below the breasts. *3 Then, he will remove the excess fat and glandular tissue through these incisions and sculpt the contours of your breasts to achieve a natural masculine appearance.
Excision Technique
Excision technique is preferred when a larger amount of glandular tissue is present, removal of excess skin is required, the areola is planned to be reduced, or the nipple is planned to be repositioned. In this approach, excess fat tissue, glandular tissue, and stretched skin tissue are excised. The place and the length of the incisions depend on the case. They are typically made around the areola or within the natural creases of the chest. Your surgeon will place the incisions so that the scars will be inconspicuous as much as possible.
