Like for all cosmetic surgeries, the first requirement to be eligible for a dimple surgery is being healthy. If you are healthy, meaning you don’t have any condition that may impair healing after the surgery, there is no obstacle for your surgery. The second requirement is that you have realistic expectations. You should understand the procedure and its expected results. The dimple surgery provides the best results for people with a firm and elastic skin. In case of cheek and chin dimples, having a plenty of volume in your cheeks or chin is an advantage.
What are the Expected Outcomes of Dimple Surgery?
The outcomes of dimple surgery can be analyzed in two main categories: aesthetical and psychological. Dimple surgery, when performed by an experienced and talented plastic surgeon provides completely natural results. Your dimples will look as if you always had them! Obviously, the only aesthetical outcome of this procedure is that you will have dimples! There are three kinds of dimple surgery. So, you will have cheek dimples, a chin dimple, or a Venus dimple, depending on your choice. All of these dimples are considered as an element of beauty. Also, in case of cheek and chin implants, the procedure is performed through incisions made inside the mouth. Therefore, not even a small visible scar is left. Of course, not having dimples is not a reason for psychological distress. However, they are considered beautiful by most people. If you are considering having this procedure, you like them, too. How is a Dimple Surgery Done?
Dimple surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to create dimples on cheeks, chin, and back.
Anesthesia
Like all kinds of surgery, dimple surgeries require anesthesia. Dimple surgery is typically done with local anesthesia. Sedation can be used in combination with local anesthesia. However, if your dimple surgery is performed in combination with another surgery, general anesthesia may be required.
Surgery
The essence of dimple surgeries is creating dimples on cheeks, chin, or lower back. The resulting dimples are permanent. (If required, the process can be reversed, but the result may not match the pre-operation appearance.) Dimple surgeries are minimally invasive surgeries. All three of them takes less than 1 hour to complete.
Procedures
Using these methods of dimple surgeries for dimples are quite effective with the right surgeons.
Cheek Dimple Creation
After numbing your cheeks with a local anesthetic, your surgeon will make a small incision on the inner surface of your cheek. They will remove a small amount of tissue and connect your cheek muscle to the skin of the cheek from the inside, using dissolvable sutures. *2 Same steps will be followed on your other cheek. The muscle will be permanently connected to the skin after the sutures dissolve. Therefore, your dimple will have a fixed position and will appear only when you smile.
Chin Dimple Creation
After numbing the area, the surgeon will make a small incision inside the mouth. *3 They will attach a small area of the muscle to the skin of the chin from the inside, using dissolvable sutures.
Venus Dimple Creation
Your lower back area will be numbed using local anesthesia. Your surgeon will remove an appropriate amount of excess fat from the area and create and indentation using dissolvable sutures. The dimple surgery is usually an extremely safe procedure. In rare cases, complications and risks can happen, which include: Bleeding: Although very rare, the operation area can have bleeding during or after the surgery. Infection: The risk of infection is quite low and further reduced with a good oral hygiene and the use of antibiotics. Nerve damage: During the surgery, an inexperienced surgeon may injure the buccal branch of the facial nerve, but this is highly uncommon.
