What are the Expected Outcomes of Buttock Lift?

The outcomes of buttock lift can be analyzed in two main categories: aesthetical and psychological.

Aesthetical Outcomes

Because of aging, weight fluctuations, and genetic factors, you may experience changes in different parts of your body including your buttocks. It is very common to have tissue and skin laxity and a sagging appearance, in the gluteal area. After successfully losing a significant amount of weight, you may have been left with sagging skin. Your skin may have lost its elasticity, simply because of aging. Luckily, buttock lift is a highly effective treatment. After the procedure, your buttocks will look firmer and smoother.

Psychological Outcomes

The psychological outcomes of the procedure are as important as the physical ones. Sagging buttocks with excess and loose soft tissues, a dimpled appearance, a stretched skin, and not well-balanced contours can be psychologically distressing. You can feel like you are older than you actually are. You may not be able to enjoy your weight loss. You may find it hard to decide what you will wear. You may not like the way you look in the mirror. Therefore, after the procedure, strong psychological benefits are expected. You will start to love your body more.

How Is A Buttock Lift Done?

Buttock lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to change the appearance of buttocks. It is customized according to needs and wishes of the patient.

Anesthesia

Like all kinds of surgery, buttock lift surgeries require anesthesia. Your surgeon will decide whether general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is more suitable for your case.

Surgery

The essence of buttock lift surgery is the removal of excess fat and skin from the buttocks, tightening and reshaping the underlying tissues, and redraping the remaining skin to achieve a firmer and smoother appearance.

During the surgery, your surgeon will make an incision. The most common technique uses an incision below the waistline, from hip to hip. An ellipse of excess fat and skin is removed. Underlying tissues are tightened and reshaped using deep sutures. The remaining skin is redraped over the newly shaped underlying tissues.

Combinations

For better sculpting the area and body contouring, liposuction can be performed. If you want larger buttocks, the procedure can be combined with a buttock augmentation procedure.*2 If you want to achieve a change in a larger portion of your body, buttock lift procedure can be performed as a part of a lower body lift, a thigh lift, or an abdominoplasty.

Risks and Complications*3

Depending on the surgical approach the complication rates can differ. Following the surgeon’s directives during recovery is a must in order to minimize the risk of any complication. Overall, the possible complications are:

  • Scar deformity
  • Persistent skin laxity
  • Seroma
  • Wound dehiscence/separation
  • Skin necrosis
  • Cellulitis
  • Embolism
  • Gluteal cleft elongation

What To Expect During A Buttock Lift Recovery?

The First Week

After the surgery, there will be stitches on your incisions. There will be dressings on your incisions and you may need to wear compression garment for a while. Right after the surgery, it is normal to experience some pain and discomfort. You may also experience some bruising and swelling. Pain and discomfort will improve after a few days. Until then, pain can be successfully controlled by pain medication. Small, thin tubes may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain excess fluid and blood. Your stitches will be removed after 1 week. Gentle walking is safe and recommended.

Later

Bruising and swelling will improve quickly but they will last for several weeks. You will be able to return to work or school 2-3 weeks after the surgery. During the first week, you should avoid directly sitting on your buttocks. At this time, you need to sleep on your side or stomach. And you should avoid strenuous activities for several weeks. You will need to wear a compression garment for several weeks. After a few months, most of the recovery will be completed.

Guidance & Support

A wellbeing assistant will visit you in your hotel room every day during the first week after the surgery. We will expect you to be in our clinic for your post-op examination 1 week after the surgery, before you leave Istanbul. We will still follow your recovery process while you are away. Clineca will provide you with complete support and inform you about everything you need to know during your recovery. We will be with you from your consultation to the very end of your recovery.

Problems & Solutions

Buttock lift procedure can be done as a solitary procedure, as a part of a lower body lift, a thigh lift, or abdominoplasty, or it can be combined with a buttock augmentation procedure. Here you can find answers for different complaints.

If your buttocks are your only problem, then a solitary buttock lift surgery may be ideal approach for you. During a buttock lift procedure, excess fat and skin are removed from the buttocks, underlying soft tissues are tightened and reshaped, and the remaining skin is redraped. Buttock lift procedure alone is sufficient to achieve a firm and smooth appearance. However, buttock lift does not add volume to buttocks. If you also want to have larger and more projected buttocks, your procedure can be combined with a buttock augmentation.
A buttock lift procedure alone cannot get rid of the sagging problem in the thighs. In that case, the best approach may be a lower body lift surgery. Lower body lift surgery includes the buttock lift procedure. Lower body lift surgery is designed to remove excess fat and skin from hips, buttocks, and thighs, lifting the buttocks, and reshaping the lower body contours. If your problem areas are limited to your lower body, a lower body lift surgery can do miracles. If you have similar problems in your abdominal region, your lower body lift surgery can be combined with an abdominoplasty or a mid-body lift.
A buttock lift procedure alone cannot get rid of the sagging problem in the abdomen. The best approach for you may be a buttock lift procedure combined with an abdominoplasty. In that case an incision just below the waistline is combined with an abdominoplasty incision. This combined approach eliminates the sagging problem in the buttocks and in the abdomen simultaneously. A firm and smooth appearance is achieved. The results can be enhanced by performing liposuction.
If you have sagging skin all over your body, total body lift may be the best way to go. Total body lift combines upper body lift, mid-body lift, and lower body lift. This is a highly extensive approach and requires a significantly longer recovery time. However, this approach also provides the opportunity to achieve a full body transformation and natural looking results. Because all parts of the body (including the buttocks) are operated on, surgeon is able to create well-balanced contours all over the body. Because the scope of the surgery is wide, it can be performed in multiple surgical appointments.
Aging can cause tissue and skin laxity without weight fluctuations. You don’t have to experience weight loss to be eligible for buttock lift surgery. Many people choose to have lifting procedures because of aging-related sagging problems. If your problem is limited to your buttocks, a buttock lift procedure may be sufficient. If your problem is limited to your lower body, you can choose to have a lower body lift surgery, which includes buttock lift. If you have sagging problem all over your body, then you can have a total body lift surgery.
A buttock lift surgery is effective to achieve a firmer and smoother appearance. However, it cannot increase the size or the projection of your buttocks. If you want to have larger, more projected, firmer, and smoother buttocks, you may choose to have a buttock lift procedure combined with a buttock augmentation. Buttock lift and buttock augmentation procedures are often combined. This combined approach provides amazing results.
